Just when you thought the worst was over, the world finds itself gripped by the third wave of COVID-19 infections. After spending Easter last year in a hard lockdown and toning down our Christmas celebrations to limit the spread of COVID wave two, Easter’s upon us again.

How to ‘Do’ Easter and Passover This Year

We know you feel like you just ‘can’t do’ this anymore, and Easter’s traditionally a time of family celebrations and religious reverence. So, it’s tempting to throw caution to the wind right now. Please don’t do that. If we keep up the good work, we can stop South Africa from suffering even more under the ravages of COVID-19.

The third wave is on its way, and this is what you can do about it.

Avoid Gatherings

The best thing you can do this Easter is to keep your family safe at home and celebrate in your own way, safely. Many places of worship will offer online services for devout congregants, so you can avoid mass services and still worship in an appropriate way.

Restrict celebratory dinners to immediate family only. Rather wish friends and family well with online greetings or creative emails.

Stay Safe When Out and About

If you are going away for the long weekend, confine your activities to those deemed safe by the CDC, and wear a mask at all times when you’re in public. Not only is this the law, but it could also save your life.

Never pass up the chance to wash or sanitise your hands and keep social distancing top of mind wherever you go.

Don’t Give Up

We’re all in this fight together, so keep the big picture in mind. Sacrificing this Easter could mean that things get back to normal so much quicker than they will if we live dangerously. If we manage to prevent the third wave, we could avoid the possibility of a fourth.

Despite an initial decline in the number of positive cases, our infections are starting to climb again. Stay informed and stay safe, so we can all celebrate together again.
