We’ve all experienced losses great and small this year. For some of us things will never be the same again. Yet, as restrictions start to lift and the healing begins, let’s focus on the positive ways that COVID19 has changed our lives.

This is what the future holds, and it’s not all bad:

Hygiene’s at an All-Time High

Until now, none of us realised how slack our hygiene really was. Who knew you were supposed to wash your hands 50 times a day?

Now, it’s all about keeping things clean and sanitary, both at home and out in public. We’re washing our hands, watching what we touch, and the two-second rule’s gone out the window.

In future, we can expect a lot more of these norms. Contactless payments will continue in full force, sanitizers will be everywhere for a while, and we’ll all be taking better care of our health.

The upside of this is that viruses won’t be able to invade our planet in the same way that they did before COVID, and that means the usual winter flu won’t be able to take hold as they used to and we’ll all be a lot healthier all round.

Home is Where it’s Happening

Out of necessity, many businesses have realised that it is possible for their staff to work from home. That means lower overheads, less pollution due to commuting, and no corporate uniforms for some.

We’ve also all discovered the convenience of online shopping too, so that takes a whole lot of traffic off the roads too. Some of us have taken up growing our own food, and we’ve all started new hobbies and in many cases, rekindled family bonds.

Everyone’s learnt the difference between need and want.

So Far, So Good

There’s no denying that, in countless cases, South Africans have pulled together like never before this year. While we’ve suffered some devastating losses, there’s no doubt that we’ve defied the odds so far.

We’re not out of the woods yet.

So, keep up the good work, stay vigilant, and focus on the ways that COVID-19 has changed our lives for the better.
