Elsa Joubert Elsa Joubert, 97, was a great South African writer. She's been described as a pioneer and ahead of her time, able to reach her own people with her political message. Her book, The Long Journey of Poppie Nongena, was translated into 13 languages and Die reise van Isobelle won her the prestigious Hertzog Literary Prize in 1998.
